What We Do
Citizenship Program
CARECEN operates the Office of New Americans’ Nassau and Suffolk Opportunity Centers to provide naturalization application assistance free of charge. CARECEN also assists applicants apply for a waiver of the naturalization application fee and offers vouchers to cover the naturalization application fee for applicants who are not fee waiver eligible.

Office of New Americans Legal Counsel Program
CARECEN hosts the Office of New Americans’ Nassau and Suffolk Legal Counsel programs. This team of attorneys provides a host of immigration legal services, in addition to conducting significant community outreach and educational programming.

Rapid Response Program
CARECEN's Rapid Response Program offers a host of legal services to individuals who have recently arrived in the United States and are in removal proceedings (i.e., immigration court). These services are provided through a self-help model where the noncitizen is provided limited assistance and representation in filing the asylum and work permit applications, etc.

Special Programs
CARECEN’s Special Programs Team is dual purpose: it is home for short-term programs and it runs our internship and mentorship program. Currently, Special Programs hosts the Office of New Americans’ Afghan Legal Assistance Program, which serves Long Island’s Afghan immigrant community. Additionally, the team works closely with partner law schools to foster future attorneys’ dedication to serving Long Island’s immigrant communities.

Low-Bono Program
CARECEN’s Low-Bono Program provides low cost legal assistance on a wide variety of immigration applications, including DACA, TPS, green cards, and work permits.

Youth Immigration Project
CARECEN's Youth Immigration Project is staffed by Immigration Justice Corps fellows, as well as attorneys, who provide crucial representation to children who reside in Long Island and entered the U.S. without a parent or guardian. In addition to legal services, CARECEN partners with Harmony Health through the groundbreaking Terra Firma National medical-legal partnership to ensure that these children receive medical and mental health care.
